Hello! And welcome to My 3D Home blog! This is a new business venture between my wife, Anna, and me, Mike, local residents of Northern NSW, ready to hopefully to take a new look at how real estate, commercial properties, insurance assessments, retail and even Air BnB are handled in the age of Covid! Through the eyes of a virtual camera, allowing you to immerse yourself in the space!
Wow, so here we are, drawing towards the end of 2021, which to me and probably everyone else, it has just been a blend of 2020 extended a bit longer. It has felt like we have lived in an area of constant restrictions and lockdowns, separated from our friends and family.
2020 was a horrible year for many people including Anna and I, we have all had to face challenges to how we work remotely, to even changes in employment, being separated from our beautiful families in Sydney and Melbourne, and even living just a few kilometres from the QLD border, in the lovely Tweed area, we could not cross the border from NSW into QLD to see our friends, whom we considered an extension of our family.
2021 started with some hope with easing of restrictions and for Anna going back into the aviation industry once more, things were looking bright. Alas it was short lived, lockdowns came back into effect, and a good friend of mine Peter, living in Dubai, was struck down with that horrible C word! Covid! Peter was in a coma for 2 months, it was touch and go whether he would live through it. A normal early 40s guy with no major health issues. When he came through, he asked the doctor, why I am still here. Doctor said, “well, you were just lucky, go buy a lotto ticket and hug your family.”
I think this event really change my perspectives towards Covid, vaccinations, lockdowns and restrictions. And if I am honest, my view on life and my passions, why have I been waiting to follow my passions? Life is precious and we can get so caught up in our day to day activities, we lose sight of these passions in life.
I’ve always been a passionate aviator, I have held my private pilots licence now for over 10 years, but 2020/21 crushed my spirits, I lost the ability to fly aircraft, due to lockdowns and restrictions with flying, I honestly never really thought travel would return to normal.
But by chance a social media advert popped up in my feed and it was showcasing drone piloting course and how it could change how we do things today. So I signed up immediately!
July 2021, I completed my drone licence course, it was a wonderful experience. And my passion for drone aviation was born. I have since gone on to complete additional courses including flying large drones up to 25kg and flying drones at night!
I threw myself into developing a drone business, when I came across a company called Matterport, developing these highly accurate 3D models of homes, it led me down the rabbit hole of how much a Matterport camera can do! I was hooked, and My 3D Homes was born.
So here we are in November 2021, looking forward to seeing our families once more at Christmas time, and for Anna and I, we are excited about launching our own business!
And even better news, we have scored our first client on day 1 of launch! How good is that!
